Nigeria Super Eagles came from a goal down to beat 10-man Mozambique 3-2 in an international friendly at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira on Monday afternoon.
The West African giants played out a 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia in Portimao last Friday and made changes to the side for their second friendly match of this international window. However, the second-string side managed to secure a 3-2 win – Nigeria’s first win in any international friendly since 2019.

The Mambas took an early lead after goalkeeper Uzoho and his backline fluffed their lines which allowed Geny Catamo to score with ease. The Super Eagles were however able to recover from that early set-back, as OGC Nice star Terem Moffi finished from close range inside the area before Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka made it 2-1 with a brilliant strike.
Mozambique were reduced to 10 men just before the half-time break after Edmilson Dove received his marching orders for a foul. The Super Eagles then went ahead to extend their lead in added time from the penalty spot which was duly converted by Nantes winger Moses Simon.
Despite Nigeria’s numerical advantage, it was the Mambas who went ahead to get another goal back which came courtesy of Faisal Bangal in the 55th minute. The Super Eagles held on to avoid a repeat of what happened against the Saudis on Friday.
The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers where they play Lesotho and Zimbabwe next month.
During and after the match, several football fans expressed their thoughts about the team’s performance and the goalkeeping problem of the side among many other things.
